Make your own beautiful Dream Catcher to protect you from bad dreams.
The Daydream craft kit comes with everything you need to DIY dreamcatcher decor.
This tutorial is adapted from a Facebook Live.
To watch a live tutorial simply.
Dream Catcher decor is super popular and I see them everywhere I go, but did you know there is a purpose to the dreamcatcher?
It is said that dream catchers started with dream catcher diy Ojibwe, a native Indian Nation.
The Ojibwe would hang the dream catcher above the bed as a charm to protect sleeping people, usually children, from nightmares.
Only the good dreams would filter through the dream catcher.
The bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the daylight.
The good dreams would then pass through and slide down the feathers to the sleeper.
I think we all need a dream catcher to protect us from those nasty, bad dreams!
Whether you believe the same as the Ojibwe or just love the look of the dream catchers, Apostrophe S has the kit for you!
This gives you all of the supplies you need to create simple and beautiful dream catcher decor.
Most everything you will need is supplied in the kit.
What you will need to supply is a pair of scissors.
I do have a video tutorial if you would prefer to watch the tutorial.
The first step is wrapping the wire ring with the brown ribbon.
There are lots of ribbons included in the kit so you want to make sure that you grab the brown taffeta ribbon so it will wrap all of the way around the ring.
To start, apply a glue dot to the end of the ribbon, and start wrapping around and dream catcher diy />When finished, use another glue dot to secure the end and trim off any excess.
This is what the ring looks like when finished.
Next, open up the crochet doily and lay in the center of the ring.
Attach the doily using the linen thread and blue needle that is included in the kit.
Simply stitch the thread through a hole in the doily at each point and wrap around the ring to the next point of the doily.
When dream catcher diy points have been stitched through, tie the two end of the linen thread together.
Make sure the thread is tight and the doily is centered in the ring.
The doily placement can be adjusted by pulling on the threads until it is right where you want it.
The fairy ring dragon quest heroes of the ribbon from the kit needs to be cut in half, all except for the wide cream cotton ribbon.
This ribbon is already the length it should be for the dream catcher.
Once all the ribbon is cut, it is time to start attaching it to the dream catcher ring.
Find where you want the bottom center to be this is where you attach the first ribbon strand.
To attach, use a looping technique.
Fold the ribbon in half with the fold at the top, just under the wire ring.
Pull the loose ends of the ribbon over the ring and through the fold loop at the top and pull tight.
Continue attaching ribbon strands in this way alternating to the left and right of the original until you are out of ribbon.
Now we get to accessorize!
Use the linen thread to sew two of the turquoise beads to the center of the doily, and tuck a feather behind the beads in through the doily holes.
There are two ways to add the feathers to the ribbon strands.
The first is simply tie a strand of the linen thread to the end of the feather, and the other dream catcher diy to first push a bead over the end of the feather and then tie the strand of the linen thread to the feather.
I had enough feathers and beads to do 3 of each.
Then tie the feathers onto the ring in different places hanging and varying lengths.
Where else, but above the bed and to the right.
